What If…

What would have happened, elect, if the eleven obeyed the Lord and accepted the women’s message on resurrection morning and actually left for Galilee… hurrying towards the place where Jesus had said?  They would have seen Him?

We do not know… but one thing is certain… church history would not be as it is.  For the church itself would have been raised out of faith and obedience rather than disbelief and disobedience as well as delay… for the Holy Spirit was not poured out until after Jesus left on Pentecost day.  Disbelief, disobedience and delay – the three D’s that characterise the church of Jesus Christ at large from resurrection day.  In a few weeks, the ‘church’ will celebrate Easter with ‘Good Friday’ and ‘Easter Sunday’… terms not found in the Bible.  If we were to use terms that describe what happened to commemorate what happened… would crucifixion day and resurrection day not be more accurate?

From that first day of the week when the women found the empty tomb, everything that has been said and done has been a compromise.  Everything is not what should have been, for what should have been never was.  As such, what can a person do with such knowledge?  Nail it to a church door like Martin Luther did and start a civil war?  Not at all; for the sons of God are peacemakers, not war makers, as Jesus said.

When Paul wrote in Corinthians that no eyes have seen, no ears have heard, nor mind conceived what God has prepared, has it ever occurred to you that he might have been talking about what God had prepared for the disciples in Galilee that morning and for the next 40 days if only they had gone there?  As Paul wrote:  …but God has revealed it to us by His Spirit. [1 Corinthians 2.10] And so it will be and is as the Holy Spirit reveals it to His elect, that they may not only know what should have been, but to verify the truth of the revelation, are given the ability to live as one and ones who are descended from disciples who did believe, who did obey and who did go without delay to Galilee and spent 40 days on top the Mount of Transfiguration with the Godhead – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – and came down from that mountain like Moses came down from his, filled with the Spirit of Glory and carrying the Testimony of God about Jesus Christ.

It is not by power nor by might, but only by the Holy Spirit can such an event take place.  No cleverly invented doctrine, theology or lie can bring forth such a race of people.  For to confirm the truth of such a fantastic possibility, the congregations descended from what never happened must be so different from the congregations descended from what happened, that indeed it will be a church the world has never known.

A church not only of eating, drinking and talking, but a church of power, joy, peace and righteousness filled will all of God’s good pleasure.  A church that does not conform to the epistles of the apostles because it is a church for which the epistles were not written.

You see, elect, the epistles of the apostles were written for the teaching, training and correcting of the churches that are raised up as a result of their disbelief, disobedience and delay.  You see, elect, what Jesus called ‘scriptures’ are the Law, the Prophets and the Psalms.  And so what Paul wrote – All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work [2 Timothy 3.16-17] – refers, in truth, only to the Law, the Prophets and the Psalms… and Paul in his own mind never considered his letters to be scriptures!

As such, for those whom the Holy Spirit has set apart for His work in these last days to usher in the arrival of Jesus… for those to whom He is making known what no eyes saw, no ears heard nor mind conceived what God had prepared that day in Galilee for the church, the epistles of the apostles are just that – letters written by the apostles to the churches that are descended from what should never have been.

Now as the third millennium since His departure begins in earnest, just like the third day after His crucifixion, so the body of Christ, that is, the church, is being resurrected.  Not the church that should never have been, but the church that should have been, if only the eleven had believed and obeyed and hastened to Galilee.

The world knows well the church descended from the disbelief, disobedience and delay of the eleven, but it has never seen the church that would have descended from belief and obedience without delay.  However, it will soon see it, for as the Holy Spirit decides to stand up and testify, so shall His testimony be confirmed with signs and wonders, as Jesus said it would be.  The signs and wonders of the end of the age… the end of the age of disbelief, disobedience and delay… and the beginning of the age of faith and obedience without delay.

So the Lord will raise up a new work that is not new, a new road that is not new, just narrow… and so there will be a broad way and a narrow way.  Broad is the way based on traditions of men and the recommendations of men like James the Younger, which mix the old wine with new and ruin everything.  And narrow is the way that obeys the Father and the Father only as He testified and commanded, “This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!” [Matthew 17.5 NASB]

And who is the Most Faithful Listener of the Lord Jesus?  Is it not the Lord, the Holy Spirit Himself?
