“If the Lord had not cut short those days, no one would survive.  But for the sake of the elect, whom He has chosen, He has shortened them,” said Jesus as He was teaching the twelve the signs of the end of the age as they were leaving the temple of Herod for the last time.  For Jesus never visited the temple again… not during His torture and suffering nor, as it is recorded, did He ever go near that temple again after His resurrection.

Now what did Jesus mean when He said that the Lord – the Holy Spirit – would cut short the days… that is, He would shortened them for the sake of the elect?  This is now topical and time to bring this to your attention, elect, for thanks to the advances in the discoveries of science, scientists are now able to measure the effect of the Earth’s rotation by major earthquakes.  It is now a published fact that scientists have calculated that the 2004 earthquake off Aceh and the 2010 Chilean earthquake may have shortened the day by 6.4 and 1.2 microseconds respectively.  For those who still think that Jesus’ words have no literal fulfilment but only figurative fulfilment, it is time to think again and realise that His words are truly true and they find fulfilment both literally and figuratively, physically and spiritually.

To those who would exclude creationism out of the school curriculum in favour of evolution, we ask which ‘scientist’ or ‘great philosopher’ of 2,000 years ago predicted in their journals the increase in revolution and warfare, the great increase in earthquakes, famines and pestilences by their observation?  Yet our Lord Jesus, without a reputation for scientific or philosophic enquiry, accurately predicted and stated that a time would come when this Earth would have an increase in earthquakes, famines and pestilences… as well as the general social breakdown with an increase of evil, even children killing their parents.  So learn this, elect… scientists only discover the science, but God created the science, and there is a high difference between the discoverer and the Creator.  The discoverer has no idea the purpose of what he has discovered although he may utilise it… but the Creator knows the purpose of what He has made before He even made it.

The purpose of this creation was clear in God’s mind before He even said, “Let there be light.” And the purpose He had for Adam and all his children was also clear before He even breathed life into him.  Even though creation has been thrown into disarray by the rebellions and sins of Satan and Adam, He who made it still knows how to fix it and bring it to where He always intended it from the beginning, no matter what Satan or Adam may say or do.

So likewise, in the life of all who have taken up their right to be children of God, there comes a time for them – us, each of us – to grow up instead of being childish as we discover the various articles and furnishings in the household, not to take them and use them as we please.  That is what children do, they do not buy (produce/create) the articles of their homes, but they will play with them, touch them and break them.  However, the parents – the father and the mother – who made or bought those articles know the purpose for which they were made… and blessed are the parents whose children learn to respect the household articles and learn from their parents the purpose of the existence of those articles.

God made Eden for a purpose.  He put the Trees of Life and of the Knowledge of Good and Evil there for a purpose.  He raised Israel up for a purpose.  He raised the church up for a purpose.  But each time His children discovered what He had made, they took it and used it for their own purpose.

The fruit of the knowledge of good and evil was not made to be food even though it was pleasing to the eye.  It was and is poisonous.  But Eve – the child… innocent, gullible Eve – saw that it was good for food and pleasing to the eye and also desirable for gaining wisdom… and so she ate of it and gave it to Adam.  She took what God had made and used it in a way it was never intended.

Likewise when God raised Israel up.  It was not so that Israel could use their freedom to run after other gods, but so that by a faithful observation of God’s ways, Israel would be a lampstand nation to the world and be there to hem in the empires of the world around them.  But the Israelites took the nation God had created and used it for their own purpose.

Likewise the ‘church.’  It was never in the mind of God that the church would become a great religious institution founded on the traditions of its forefathers, but to be the template that would manifest the Kingdom of God founded on the words He gave His Son, Jesus.  It was never in the mind of God for gentiles to listen to James the Younger’s recommendations and to observe a few of the statutes of the Mosaic Law to make it easier for them.  It was always the purpose of God that gentiles, like the Samaritans at Sychar, would be discipled by the twelve and the other Hebrew disciples to listen to Jesus and to practise His words so that the Kingdom of God would manifest amongst them as it would and should have manifested amongst the Jewish disciples, beginning with the eleven.

So it is time to see the words of Jesus for what they truly are – eternal truths that find their fulfilment figuratively and literally, physically and spiritually… according to the purpose that God has and not even according to the purpose that apostles have just because they heard it or discovered it.

As surely as scientists who say there is no God have discovered the science made by God and used it according to their will and purpose without giving due credit to the One who made what they discovered, much less have the decency to enquire of the Maker what its purpose is… so worse still are religious men who have discovered the power and truth of the words of God but used them for their own purposes to achieve their own goals without the decency of asking the One who spoke them what was and is the purpose of His words and teachings.

You may have discovered that in the Name of Jesus demons flee and submit to you and the sick are healed and you rejoice over that… but had you asked the One who gave you the Name and the power, you might find that the purpose of the ability to drive out demons and heal the sick is not so much as to cause you to rejoice, but to rejoice that your names are written in Heaven.

The eleven asked the Lord, “Lord, are You at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” as if the purpose of the ministry of Jesus was for that.  Indeed, they were not dissuaded from it and so, by and large, they took the ministry Jesus gave them and used it in part to raise up and restore Israel.  Even though they preached Christ and His gospel, they still sought the comfort of Herod’s temple and the quasi credibility it seemed to bestow on their fledging religion.  James the Younger went even further and through his recommendations and the teachings of men from him, sought to use the church to introduce the practice of the teachings of Moses to the gentiles through faith in Jesus Christ.

So when the scientists of this world use the science God has made to convince themselves and others that God does not exist, it is time to realise we have done much worse.  We have taken the salvation and the revelation that Christ has brought and used it for our restoration, instead of using them for that which God has always purposed… and that is the resurrection of God’s hope, dreams and plans of kingdoms, even empires, through the sons of man.  Indeed, if the eleven had asked, “Lord, are You at this time going to restore the kingdom to God?” when they spoke of Israel, they would have asked a question after God’s own heart and the Lord would not have replied, “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by His own authority.”

For anyone who would grow up and be mature like a son or daughter who finally learns to appreciate the utensils and articles of his or her parents’ home and use it for which they were intended with due appreciation to their value and enjoyment as well as their privilege, will realise that this is the very question Jesus was waiting to hear from them as He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the Kingdom of God. The Kingdom of God that He had in mind through men as He said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the Earth and subdue it.  Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

And Jesus so demonstrated it as even the wind and waves submitted to Him and the fish congregated where He had in mind and supplied the coins He needed for His taxes.  He drove out demons and let us – His disciples – drive them out to show us that not only do we have authority over the living creatures made by God, but that we have authority over every creature on the Earth, even demons – a creature not made by God – as it is written:  “They sacrificed to demons, which are not God—gods they had not known, gods that recently appeared, gods your fathers did not fear.”

So it is time to set things right so that the set times can be revealed… and for those who desire to mature, who are purposing to mature, it is time to see the purpose of the words of God given to Jesus Christ for what God has in mind and stop behaving like children using the household articles inappropriately.

The salvation that Christ brought is not so that we may indulge ourselves on this Earth and luxuriate ourselves at the expense of other men and so prostitute ourselves as we raise up a great religion that excels in buying and selling of gold, ivory, precious stones and even the souls of men.  The revelation of His Father that Christ brought to His disciples is not so that we would become known as fathers or be called by others as fathers and be seen in public with piety.  And the resurrection that is in Him is not so that we may enjoy everlasting life, but so that He might enjoy that which Satan and Adam ruined in an even greater manner than originally purposed.

So then, elect, for what purpose has the Holy Spirit elected you and your fellow elects?  For what purpose has He placed you in His workshop?  Rest assured, as He said to the church about Barnabas and Saul, so He has said this to Jesus, “Set apart for Me… for the work to which I have called them.” It is for His work you are elected… and His work in these last days, as Jesus has said, “But for the sake of the elect, whom He has chosen, He has shortened them.”

Know and understand, elect, you have been chosen that He may shorten the days for you and it has begun.

Amen.
