We have been learning about the eight covenants, seven from the Old Testament and one from the New Testament, seven between God and men and one between the Father and Jesus. Allow me to repeat the eight covenants:

1. Covenant of Life

2. Covenant of Blessing

3. Covenant of Inheritance

4. Covenant of Deliverance and Healing

5. Covenant of Peace and Priesthood

6. Covenant of Kingship

7. Covenant of Repentance

8. Covenant for the Forgiveness of Sins

In the Covenant of Life between God and Noah, God said, Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the Earth.”[1] Not only did God establish the Covenant of Life, but now He has given us the opportunity to have eternal life through His beloved Son, Jesus Christ.

Jesus said:

· For God loved the world so much that He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent His Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through Him. There is no judgment against anyone who believes in Him. But anyone who does not believe in Him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son.”[2]

· “…those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”[3]

· “For just as the Father gives life to those He raises from the dead, so the Son gives life to anyone He wants.”[4]

· “I tell you the truth, those who listen to My message and believe in God who sent Me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life. And I assure you that the time is coming, indeed it’s here now, when the dead will hear My voice—the voice of the Son of God. And those who listen will live. The Father has life in Himself, and He has granted that same life-giving power to His Son.”[5]

· “Don’t be so surprised! Indeed, the time is coming when all the dead in their graves will hear the voice of God’s Son, and they will rise again. Those who have done good will rise to experience eternal life, and those who have continued in evil will rise to experience judgment.”[6]

· “Spend your energy seeking the eternal life that the Son of Man can give you. For God the Father has given Me the seal of His approval.”[7]

· “I am the Bread of Life. Whoever comes to Me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in Me will never be thirsty.”[8]

· “…it is My Father’s will that all who see His Son and believe in Him should have eternal life. I will raise them up at the last day.”[9]

· “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes has eternal life. Yes, I am the Bread of Life!”[10]

· “I am the Living Bread that came down from Heaven. Anyone who eats this Bread will live forever; and this Bread, which I will offer so the world may live, is My flesh.”[11]

· “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you cannot have eternal life within you. But anyone who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise that person at the last day. For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink. Anyone who eats My flesh and drinks My blood remains in Me, and I in him. I live because of the living Father who sent Me; in the same way, anyone who feeds on Me will live because of Me. I am the true Bread that came down from Heaven. Anyone who eats this Bread will not die as your ancestors did (even though they ate the manna) but will live forever.”[12]

· “Does this offend you?”[13]

· “The Spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing. And the very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.”[14]

· “I am the Light of the World. If you follow Me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the Light that leads to Life.”[15]

· “I am the Resurrection and the Life. Anyone who believes in Me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in Me and believes in Me will never ever die. Do you believe this…?”[16]

· “…I know [the Father’s] commands lead to eternal life; so I say whatever the Father tells Me to say.”[17]

· “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one can come to the Father except through Me.”[18]

· “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son so He can give glory back to You. For You have given Him authority over everyone. He gives eternal life to each one You have given Him. And this is the way to have eternal life—to know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the One You sent to Earth. I brought glory to You here on Earth by completing the work You gave Me to do. Now, Father, bring Me into the glory we shared before the world began.”[19]

· “He who overcomes will not be hurt at all by the second death.”[20]

In the Covenant of Blessing between God and Abraham, God said, “I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on Earth will be blessed through you.”[21]

Jesus said:

· “God blesses those who are poor and realise their need for Him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted. God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole Earth. God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice [and for righteousness], for they will be satisfied. God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy. God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God. God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God. God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are My followers.”[22]

· “…God blesses those who do not turn away because of Me.”[23]

· “God blesses you who are poor, for the Kingdom of God is yours. God blesses you who are hungry now, for you will be satisfied. God blesses you who weep now, for in due time you will laugh. What blessings await you when people hate you and exclude you and mock you and curse you as evil because you follow the Son of Man.”[24]

· “…blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.”[25]

· “Blessed are those who believe without seeing Me.”[26]

In the Covenant of Inheritance between God and Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, God said, “To your descendants I give this land…”[27]

Jesus said:

· Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.”[28]

· “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in Heaven. He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.”[29]

· “…love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because He is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.”[30]

· Put your trust in the Light while you have it, so that you may become sons of Light.”[31]

· Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the Earth.”[32]

· “…everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields for My sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.”[33]

· “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, He will sit on His throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on His right and the goats on His left. Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by My Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.”[34]

In the book of Revelation, it is written that the Father said, He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be My son.”[35]

In the Covenant of Deliverance and Healing between God and Israel, the Lord said, “Know for certain that your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own, and they will be enslaved and mistreated four hundred years. But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, and afterward they will come out with great possessions. In the fourth generation your descendants will come back here, for the sin of the Amorites has not yet reached its full measure.”[36] “If you listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His eyes, if you pay attention to His commands and keep all His decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals you.”[37]

Jesus healed the sick and drove out demons while He was here on Earth. He gave His disciples power and authority to cast out all demons and to heal all diseases,[38] and He said:

· Go and announce… that the Kingdom of Heaven is near. Heal the sick, raise the dead, cure those with leprosy, and cast out demons. Give as freely as you have received!”[39]

· “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptised will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: In My Name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”[40]

In the Covenant of Peace and Priesthood between God and Phinehas, the Lord said, “Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, the priest, has turned My anger away from the Israelites; for he was as zealous as I am for My honour among them, so that in My zeal I did not put an end to them. Therefore tell him I am making My Covenant of Peace with him. He and his descendants will have a Covenant of a lasting Priesthood, because he was zealous for the honour of his God and made atonement for the Israelites.”[41]

Jesus said:

· I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give.”[42]

· “…in Me you may have peace…”[43]

· “Peace be with you.”[44]

The author of Hebrews wrote: Jesus became a Priest, not by meeting the physical requirement of belonging to the tribe of Levi, but by the power of a life that cannot be destroyed. And the psalmist pointed this out when he prophesied, “You are a Priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.” Yes, the old requirement about the priesthood was set aside because it was weak and useless. For the law never made anything perfect. But now we have confidence in a better hope, through which we draw near to God. This new system was established with a solemn oath. Aaron’s descendants became priests without such an oath, but there was an oath regarding Jesus. For God said to Him, “The Lord has taken an oath and will not break His vow: ‘You are a Priest forever.’ ” Because of this oath, Jesus is the One who guarantees this better covenant with God. There were many priests under the old system, for death prevented them from remaining in office. But because Jesus lives forever, His Priesthood lasts forever. Therefore He is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through Him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf. He is the kind of High Priest we need because He is holy and blameless, unstained by sin. He has been set apart from sinners and has been given the highest place of honour in Heaven. Unlike those other high priests, He does not need to offer sacrifices every day. They did this for their own sins first and then for the sins of the people. But Jesus did this once for all when He offered Himself as the sacrifice for the people’s sins. The law appointed high priests who were limited by human weakness. But after the law was given, God appointed His Son with an oath, and His Son has been made the perfect High Priest forever.[45] Here is the main point: We have a High Priest who sat down in the place of honour beside the throne of the majestic God in Heaven. There He ministers in the heavenly Tabernacle, the true place of worship that was built by the Lord and not by human hands. …Jesus, our High Priest, has been given a ministry that is far superior to the old priesthood, for He is the One who mediates for us a far better covenant with God, based on better promises.[46]

Peter wrote this to God’s elect in his letter: …you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful Light.[47]

What is this ‘far better covenant’ that the author of Hebrews spoke of? It is the Covenant for the Forgiveness of Sins. Jesus said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins, they are forgiven. If you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”[48]

In the Covenant of Kingship between God and David, the Lord said, I took you from the pasture and from following the flock to be ruler over My people Israel. I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make your name great, like the names of the greatest men of the Earth. And I will provide a place for My people Israel and will plant them so that they can have a home of their own and no longer be disturbed. Wicked people will not oppress them anymore, as they did at the beginning and have done ever since the time I appointed leaders over My people Israel. I will also give you rest from all your enemies. The Lord declares to you that the Lord Himself will establish a house for you: When your days are over and you rest with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, who will come from your own body, and I will establish his kingdom. He is the one who will build a house for My Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be his Father, and he will be My son. When he does wrong, I will punish him with the rod of men, with floggings inflicted by men. But My love will never be taken away from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you. Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before Me; your throne will be established forever.”[49]

Jesus is the King of kings and the Lord of lords,[50] and He said:

· “To him who overcomes and does My will to the end, I will give authority over the nations— ‘He will rule them with an iron scepter; he will dash them to pieces like pottery’— just as I have received authority from My Father.”[51]

· “To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with Me on My throne, just as I overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.”[52]

In the Covenant of Repentance between God and Solomon, the Lord said, “When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among My people, if My people, who are called by My Name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from Heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place. I have chosen and consecrated this temple so that My Name may be there forever. My eyes and My heart will always be there. As for you, if you walk before Me as David your father did, and do all I command, and observe My decrees and laws, I will establish your royal throne, as I covenanted with David your father when I said, ‘You shall never fail to have a man to rule over Israel.’ But if you turn away and forsake the decrees and commands I have given you and go off to serve other gods and worship them, then I will uproot Israel from My land, which I have given them, and will reject this temple I have consecrated for My Name. I will make it a byword and an object of ridicule among all peoples. And though this temple is now so imposing, all who pass by will be appalled and say, ‘Why has the Lord done such a thing to this land and to this temple?’ People will answer, ‘Because they have forsaken the Lord, the God of their fathers, who brought them out of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, worshiping and serving them—that is why He brought all this disaster on them.’ “[53]

Jesus said:

· I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners and need to repent.”[54]

· “…unless you repent, you will perish…”[55]

· “…there is more joy in Heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away!”[56]

· “…there is joy in the presence of God’s angels when even one sinner repents.”[57]

· It was also written that this message would be proclaimed in the authority of His Name to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem: ‘There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent.’ ”[58]

In the book of Revelation, Jesus told five out of the seven churches to repent.[59]

In the Covenant for the Forgiveness of Sins between the Father and the Son, Jesus said, This is My blood of the covenant, [which confirms the covenant between God and His people] which is poured out for many [as a sacrifice] for the forgiveness of sins.”[60] In this covenant, we are merely beneficiaries of the covenant.

Jesus said:

· “If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.”[61]

· “So I tell you, every sin and blasphemy can be forgiven—except blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, which will never be forgiven. Anyone who speaks against the Son of Man can be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven, either in this world or in the world to come.”[62]

· “…when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in Heaven will forgive your sins, too.”[63]

· “… Forgive others, and you will be forgiven.”[64]

· “I tell you, her sins—and they are many—have been forgiven, so she has shown Me much love. But a person who is forgiven little shows only little love.”[65]

· “If another believer sins, rebuke that person; then if there is repentance, forgive. Even if that person wrongs you seven times a day and each time turns again and asks forgiveness, you must forgive.”[66]

· “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.”[67]

· “It was… written that this message would be proclaimed in the authority of His Name to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem: ‘There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent.’ ”[68]

· “If you forgive anyone’s sins, they are forgiven. If you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”[69]

You might be wondering where I am going with all this. In the New Testament, the one and only command from God the Father is: This is My dearly loved Son, My Chosen One, who brings Me great joy. Listen to Him.”[70] And in the New Testament, it is not written that the Lord God Almighty made any covenants with men. The only covenant made in the New Testament was the Covenant for the Forgiveness of Sins, which was made between the Father and Jesus. Men are the beneficiaries of that covenant. And all the seven covenants in the Old Testament do not apply anymore since Jesus came to Earth and died on the cross for our sins. It is like the Covenant for the Forgiveness of Sins is the only valid and useful covenant. The previous seven old covenants are now obsolete and thus are rendered useless.

If we follow Jesus under the supervision of the Holy Spirit, and listen to Jesus, and put His words into practice, we not only benefit from the Covenant for the Forgiveness of Sins, but also from the other seven old covenants in ways that Jesus said, as I have shown. I am not saying that like the New Covenant, which is the Covenant for the Forgiveness of Sins, we are beneficiaries of the old covenants. But that through Jesus Christ, the Son of God, we can have life, blessings, inheritance, deliverance, healing, peace, priesthood, kingship and repentance. It is like we get all the benefits of the old covenants as well as the New Covenant and much more through Jesus Christ.

Therefore, be faithful and obedient to the commands of Jesus. Repent when you fail to listen to Jesus. Be grateful to the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Be grateful of the Covenant for the Forgiveness of Sins, which was forged between the Father and the Son for our benefit. Do not grieve the Lord, the Lord and the Lord by being ungrateful for Their wonderful works and words. Truly, we are beneficiaries of the Lord’s work of which we do not deserve if not for the Lord’s Grace.

The Covenant for the Forgiveness of Sins is the Lord’s Grace to us. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is the Lord’s Grace to us. We have received Grace upon Grace upon Grace despite our shortcomings. Choose you this day which covenant you want to be under. As surely as old wine is not mixed with new wine, the old covenants are not to be mixed with the New Covenant. It is: listen to Jesus exclusively or inclusive of other men. New Covenant or old covenant. He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!”[71]

Amen Lord. Today is the day everything is made new.
