Anyone who has read the words of Jesus should be familiar with the parable of the sower well enough to know that Jesus was speaking of the condition of the hearts of the people to whom the word was given.  Amazingly enough, with the benefit of hindsight, as we look at the recorded events in the gospels and the epistles, as well as the recorded history of the ‘church’, one finds that the parable of the sower was actually played out through the lives of the eleven and the church they raised.

According to the parable, as the farmer went out to sow his seeds, some fell on the path and were eaten by the birds.  Jesus explained this as His word being snatched away by Satan because the people to whom it was given did not understand it.  This is exactly what happened on resurrection morning as the women brought to the disciples the message of the kingdom again and again, that Jesus had risen, but the disciples did not understand the message.  Luke actually recorded that their words seemed to them like nonsense. [Luke 24.11]  And so they did not go, but went home after inspecting the empty tomb.  The Satan that snatched away those words was men who did not have in mind the things of God.  Ironic, for Peter who had been called just that by the Lord earlier was one of the two who went to the grave and then went home instead of Galilee.  What Jesus had in mind was for them to go to Galilee; what they had in mind was to go and hide.

When Jesus went back to Jerusalem that night and entered into locked room to show Himself to them, they were amazed and filled with joy, [Luke 24.41] and they were told to wait in Jerusalem for the Holy Spirit.  However, like the seed on rocky ground that had no root, the instruction of the Lord was forgotten and after the Lord’s second visit, some, if not all, of them left Jerusalem and went back to Galilee.  They received the word of the Lord with joy, but they did not obey and so the second word also withered, just like the seed on the rock.

Finally, when Jesus caught up to them at Galilee and brought them back to the vicinity of Jerusalem, He gave them a third set of instructions, including, “…and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” [Matthew 28.20]   Like the seed that fell among the thorns, the church grew after that word was given.  But soon the thorns – the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of wealth – choked the church and it never bore the fruit of the Kingdom of God.  They could not hold onto the word of the Lord and they departed from it, preferring to listen to men like James the Younger and allowing men like Nicolas, a convert to Judaism, to raise up followers with teachings and practices that Jesus Himself were to later testify that He hated. [Revelation 2.6]

The three messages of Jesus suffered fates as described by the parable.  The resurrection morning message was snatched away because they did not understand.  The evening message of correction withered because it was not rooted in their hearts.  The ascension message was choked because they could not overcome the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of wealth.  These being represented by their concern for the complaints of the widows and they appointed Nicolas, a mere convert to Judaism, as well as their concern to appease the Jews who were zealous for the law, who had swelled their ranks.  They valued a large congregation more than they valued holding to the words of Jesus, and so the words of James the Younger were adopted… words that teach disobedience to the words of Jesus.  As a result, the fruit of the messages of the Kingdom of God never manifested.

Now the Lord has sown His fourth lot of seeds when He gave John the message of the Revelation.  A message for those who have ears to hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches.  The message which will bear the fruit of the Kingdom of God, for those who hear it, receive it, persevere with it and understand it will bear its fruit.  They will manifest the church of the overcomers 30, 60 or 100 fold of what was sown to make up for what the church along the path, the church on stony ground and the church among the thorns lost.  Those who have ears to hear what the Holy Spirit is saying as He testifies will bring forth 30 times more than what was lost from the resurrection message, 60 times more than what was lost from the correction message, and 100 times as much as what was lost from the ascension message.

The church of the overcomers will manifest the Kingdom of God as the Lord had in mind to finish the preparation of the Earth for His arrival.  Just as Israel came out of Egypt and became a nation in a few weeks, so likewise it is possible for the church of the overcomers to come out of the thorns and become the Kingdom of God in a matter of weeks, even days, for with God, the Holy Spirit, nothing is impossible.
