When he takes the throne of his kingdom, he is to write for himself on a scroll a copy of this law, taken from that of the priests, who are Levites. It is to be with him, and he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the Lord his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees and not consider himself better than his brothers and turn from the law to the right or to the left. Then he and his descendants will reign a long time over his kingdom in Israel.

These are the rules for the kings of Israel and each and every king was to know the law and observe it so as to fulfil it. The king, if he wanted his descendants to remain on the throne of Israel, was not to turn from the law either to the right or to the left. And equality with his brothers was also part of these rules. If you look at the conduct of the kings of Israel, you would realise that not one of them secured for himself a dynasty that lasted. Even David could not have had a dynasty that lasted if God was not the One who promised David, “Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before Me; your throne will be established forever.” For David himself broke the law with his murder of Uriah and his adultery with Bathsheba, and his son Solomon certainly did not stay faithful to the Lord before his 300 wives and 700 concubines led him to false gods. As such, if David was ever to have a descendant sit upon the throne of Israel, it is because God said so… and not because David achieved it.

We all know or should know by now that Jesus came to fulfil the law as He said, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.” And as such, more than any of the other kings, only Jesus is qualified to be the King of Israel. Now you do not have to come from the lineage of David to be a king of Israel. Jeroboam and Ahaz did not, but they too were kings of Israel. Thus know for certain, Jesus’ right to the throne of Israel is not because He is a descendant of David as much as He was ordained and chosen by God and that He fulfilled the requirements of being a King of Deuteronomy 17.18-20. Although the Jews were expecting the ‘Son of David’, Jesus is more the ‘Lord of David’ than his Son.

Now see this requirement of Deuteronomy 17.20: …and not… turn from the law to the right or to the left. If Jesus’ primary focus was to be the King of Israel, then indeed He would never had and should not have taught His disciples to break Leviticus 17 in the drinking of His blood and the eating of His flesh… for in teaching His disciples to eat His flesh and drink His blood, Jesus disqualified Himself and His descendants from the throne of Israel. You see, when Pilate asked Jesus, “Are You the King of the Jews?” Jesus never said, “Yes,” but He said, “Is that your own idea or did others talk to you about Me?” It is us, we, who say Jesus is the King of the Jews… as many do to this day… but listen to Jesus and see if you can hear His answer to Pilate, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, My servants would fight to prevent My arrest by the Jews. But now My kingdom is from another place.” In His reply, Jesus said to Pilate, “Since My disciples (My servants) are not fighting to prevent My arrest by the Jews, I am not the King of the Jews and neither is My kingdom of this world.” It is because the disciples did not fight to prevent His arrest, except Peter, that His kingdom is from a place other than this world.

So did Jesus focus on being the King of the Jews? No! Was the restoration of the Kingdom of Israel with Jesus as its King foremost in Jesus’ mind? No! Was Jesus focussed on fulfilling God’s promise to David and so be the Son of David to sit on the throne of Israel? No!

He came as the Son of God to establish the Kingdom of God on Earth and He is returning as the Son of Man to establish His kingdom… the Kingdom of Man, the perfect image of God on Earth. No, not man as you and I know man, a sinner and devoid of all trace of divinity… but Man, sinless and fully the exact representation of God in all His glory and majesty. Israel will be restored as a kingdom too… when the Kingdom of Christ is established and David will have one from his lineage rule Israel, and he too will call Jesus, “Lord.” But as for Jesus, the first kingdom He spoke of and the last kingdom He spoke of was the Kingdom of God.

Now for those who are by God’s will born again by the Spirit to enter and see the Kingdom of God… those who rise up through the ranks of believers to disciples, disciples to servants, servants to friends, and friends to brothers… for those who are the brothers and sisters of Jesus because they not only fulfill the Lord’s definition of who are His brothers and sisters, but they themselves avail of that privilege by getting up and going to Galilee to meet with Him, the rules for kings are no different.

You have to be firstly a brother or sister of Jesus Christ, and anyone who has ‘fondness’ for Jerusalem has disqualified himself. It is not for nothing that the eleven were never referred to by the Holy Spirit as the eleven servants or brothers, but rather, as the eleven disciples, even after the resurrection. As such, it should not surprise you that this type of kingship is not taught at all in the epistles of the eleven. Indeed, it was only Paul, the only apostle who consistently taught on the Kingdom of God, who mentioned that we can be heirs of God and coheirs with Christ. To be a coheir of the King of kings and the Lord of lords means that you must be His brother or sister, grown enough to be offered a throne of your own.

And like the kings of Israel, we have a copy of our law taken from our High Priest, Jesus Christ, a copy that we have also made in writing and a copy that we keep with us to remind us and a copy that we practise to fulfill daily, being careful not to turn from the right or the left of it. The law for those who belong to the Kingdom of God, who would one day also be its kings under Jesus, are the words of Jesus given to Him by the Father.

As surely as Jesus fulfilled the Law, the Prophets and the Psalms of the Old Covenant, so we are to fulfill the laws and the prophecies of the New Covenant. And it is when we work to fulfill them that our eligibility to kingship in the Kingdom of God can begin.

Now for the benefit of the immature and ignorant, we are not speaking of salvation nor are we speaking of righteousness and justification by works. No, for those who are born again by the Spirit, who have entered the Kingdom of God, are saved, and they can only lose that salvation by blaspheming the Holy Spirit, for it was not by their faith that they entered the Kingdom of God, but by the will of Jesus who baptised them with the Holy Spirit so that the Holy Spirit would live in them. No, salvation by grace through faith is for all who repent and believe, and for most the Kingdom of Heaven awaits them.

Now for those who are in the Kingdom of God, born again by the Spirit, we are speaking of citizens of the kingdom who find themselves chosen by God and anointed to be kings, like Saul, David, Jeroboam and Ahaz were chosen by God and anointed to be kings of Israel. If the thought arises that surely there will be many who are kings in the Kingdom of God, should that surprise you? If the enemies of the world can encompass dozens of kingdoms, then how large should an empire of God be and how many kings does the King of kings deserve to have under Him for His glory? As there are sands and stars… so God deserves to have as many kings serving Him.

As such, it should not surprise you that once you are born again into the Kingdom of God anyone can become eligible to be a king of the kingdom as well as its citizen. And that eligibility is extended to all who desire to serve, who seek to fulfill the words of Jesus and to abide by them, and who accept His invitation to be His brothers after they have satisfied the requirements of brotherhood.

As such, the good news of the Kingdom of God is not only that our King has a Son, Jesus Christ who is now the King of kings and the Lord of lords… but the good news, this good news is that all who are His brothers and sisters will be kings as well.

The invitation then from this kingdom is not an invitation to be circumcised in the flesh and to practise the Law of Moses that they may become citizens of Israel. The invitation from this kingdom is not an invitation to repent and be water baptised from a person’s sins, to receive a time of refreshing as one awaits the end of life on Earth to go to Heaven.

No, the invitation from the Kingdom of God is to be born again by the Spirit so that you are now a new creation, circumcised in the heart, baptised with the Holy Spirit and fire to enter this new kingdom, the Kingdom of God on Earth that comes by the Holy Spirit. A kingdom that is not accessed by close observation of the Law nor a kingdom that is in any one geographical place as Jesus said, “The Kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the Kingdom of God is within [among] you.” Neither can someone predict when or where the Kingdom of God will come or is to be… because it is already within those who are born again. However, when those who are born again by the Spirit begin to fulfill the words of Jesus with their lives in the same way Jesus fulfilled the Law and the Prophets of the Old Covenant, then will you see the Kingdom of God come forth from within you and reveal itself among you.

A kingdom that is not confined to a church and indeed, a kingdom that is not the ‘church’ in its present form… for the present church was birthed in Jerusalem with disciples who never took up the invitation to be brothers… and as such, the church was birthed with those who were born again, but who did not take up the right to be kings themselves. Even though the eleven were born again and theirs was the Kingdom of God, the Scriptures clearly show that they were more focussed on the restoration of the Kingdom of Israel than on the introduction of the Kingdom of God at full power to the kingdoms of the world. As such, just like they did outside of Bethsaida, neither did Jesus have His disciples arrive at Bethsaida after the feeding of the 5000, nor did His disciples get to Capernaum, but both Jesus and the twelve had to settle for Gennesaret… so now there is neither the Kingdom of Israel on Earth nor the Kingdom of God manifested with its power, joy, peace and righteousness, but only the Kingdom of Heaven where people do get to be saved, repent and are harvested by the angels to go to Heaven to await the resurrection. And from those who are of the Kingdom of Heaven, who showed faithfulness and loyalty to Jesus to be beheaded for their testimony of Him and His word, a select multitude are placed under the altar to await the first resurrection when they will come back as kings and lords to reign in Christ’s kingdom through the millennium.

However, of the Kingdom of God, there is hardly a trace of it… and it will not be revealed until there are citizens, servants of the King, who will fight for Him. A kingdom that comes by the Holy Spirit, not by careful observation nor by the will of men. A kingdom that is already in all who are born again by the Spirit and a kingdom that is ready to be revealed when its citizens stop being ashamed of its culture, language, heritage and practices, all of which are contained within the parables of the Kingdom of God and the words of Jesus that we are to fulfill.

As from here on, know who you are… if you are a citizen of the Kingdom of God, you know it because you know you are born again by the Spirit. You know you are its citizen because you have the gift that comes to all citizens of a kingdom, the right to speak its language like a native as a native. You have the gift of the language of the Kingdom of God, foreign to others, but to you a native language. A language that flows from the overflow of your heart, so that as you master it, you will be able to interpret it and in interpreting it, you will be able to study and understand the secrets of the kingdom so that you may begin to conduct yourself in the culture, heritage, lifestyle and practices of the kingdom – its power, joy, peace and righteousness. And when you are well acquainted with the Kingdom of God and your loyalty and faithfulness as its servant is proved… then will the God of the kingdom choose and anoint you into the ranks of its kings.

So for now, see the Kingdom of God within you and among you, and let it grow until it manifests for others to see because of your dedicated abidance in the law and prophecies of Jesus Christ. For as God sent Moses to Egypt to release Israel so that the nation of Israel could be birthed on Earth… so God sent Jesus to release those He had predestined by His foreknowledge into the Kingdom of God so that it could be birthed on Earth. If it was said 2000 years ago, “The time has come. The Kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!” so now surely the time has come and the Kingdom of God is here if you who have ears to hear now put into action the words of Jesus until it is all fulfilled. It is the fulfillment of the words of Jesus that will usher in the new age of His millennium and bring this one to an end. And it is because the Holy Spirit has found one and ones who would only listen to Jesus so intently that they can anticipate His need like Mary did that now the good news that is the Kingdom of God will be experienced by all and sundry in the fullness of its power, joy, peace and righteousness until Jesus arrives.

When Jesus has brothers on Earth, then shall the Kingdom of God begin to have kings on Earth who will establish the Kingdom of God so that when the Son of Man arrives, He will not find only faith awaiting Him, but He will find the Kingdom of God ready to submit to Him, the King of kings and the Lord of lords, to become the Kingdom of Christ until all His enemies are finally defeated and He can hand the kingdom back to the Father to fulfill His dreams of empires that will fill the eternities with God’s glory with things no eyes have seen, no ears have heard, no mind conceived, but are even now being revealed to you by the Spirit of God because you love Him and have obeyed His commands. Now it is time to work for there is a kingdom to be established – the Kingdom of God on Earth.
