“But seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness…”[1]  What is the basic priority of the Kingdom of God?  Is it the salvation of mankind as we have often put it, or is it something else?  Remember that God’s priority is rarely our priority and vice versa.

“What will you eat or drink?”[2]  These are reminders of the early priorities of Israel three days after they had been delivered from slavery, for at Marah when they found out that the waters were bitter, the first question was, “What are we to drink?”[3]  And a little later when they had no meat, this was their complaint, “If only we had died by the Lord’s hand in Egypt!  There we sat around pots of meat and ate all the food we wanted, but you have brought us out into this desert to starve this entire assembly to death.”[4]

You see, our priorities are always different from that of God’s, and because the Israelites never understood God’s priorities, they naturally thought they would die of thirst and hunger.  Had they realised that God had delivered them for His own purpose, then they would realise they would always be provided for.  Seeking first the Kingdom of God is to first understand its priorities.

If it is the priority of the Kingdom of God to save as many as possible so that they can go to Heaven, then there would be no need for the church, for the Lord only needs to have preachers of repentance, and once that person repented, then the person no longer needs to live, but can die to go to Heaven.  There is no need for the establishment of fellowships on Earth, but rather, just the anointing of a group of men and women who preach repentance so that those who repent may be admitted immediately with a quick death.  Like Ananias and Sapphira died.  There would only be a need for those preachers to make disciples after themselves to continue the preaching of repentance, and those who refused to repent can be left alive until they are ready to repent.  You see, the priority of the Kingdom of Heaven is repentance so that you are ready for death, should it come today.  The objective of the Kingdom of Heaven is to have people repent that they may be saved from the fires of Hell.

However, the Kingdom of God has a different priority.  It is an expansionary kingdom, that is, it seeks to extend its borders beyond its present realm, which is why Jesus taught His disciples to pray this way:  “Father, hallowed be Your Name, Your Kingdom come.  May Your will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.”[5]  And what is the will of the Father, but that “everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.”[6]  And since eternal life is “Now… that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent,”[7] then you can see that eternal life cannot be just lived out in Heaven, but it must be lived out here on Earth, for how else can you get to know Jesus unless you also spend some time on this Earth not just believing in Him, but also doing the things He has been doing.  There are no blind people in Heaven, or lame or lepers.  How would you know just how Jesus felt when Lazarus was raised, unless you also raise your Lazarus?  Or how He felt when only one of the ten lepers came back to give thanks, unless you are also able to heal as He did and experience people not giving thanks for it?

Thus, the Kingdom of God’s priority is not about getting people to Heaven to save them from Hell, for that is Kingdom of Heaven priority, but rather, the Kingdom of God priority is this:  “Your Kingdom come”!  Would Jesus teach us to pray, “Your Kingdom come,” if it had already come or if it was not intended to come?  No, it is because the Kingdom of God must come on Earth —and that is the priority ahead of God’s will be done, or our daily bread, or forgiveness of our sins, or the leading of us not into temptation.  “Your Kingdom come” is the basic first priority of the Kingdom of God.  And when you seek that first basic priority, then what you need to eat, drink and wear will be given to you.  Jesus said, “Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendour was dressed like one of these.  If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and thrown into the fire, will He not much more clothe you?”[8]

Anyone who seeks first the Kingdom of God to bring it to come on Earth, now hear this: anyone who seeks first the Kingdom of God to bring it or cause it to come on Earth, will have sought the first and basic priority of the Kingdom of God.

There are still many and there will be many more who will seek the Kingdom of God for their priorities, that is, the power of the Kingdom of God for the extension of their own priorities and plans.  They are the ones who seek to acquire the power of God to do miracles, whilst planning to retire to Heaven at the end of their ministry.  For them, what counts is how well they have lived their lives before God and men, so that when they die they will have a crown waiting for them to enjoy in Heaven.  It is not in their mindset to consider that their lives should be lived in such a way that they should never die until the Kingdom of God is established on Earth with Christ’s arrival, and that even if they should die, their first request would be to be returned to Earth to continue the work until Jesus arrives.

Anyone who seeks first the Kingdom of God and its righteousness will never need to worry about food, drink or clothes.  However, it is those who seek the Kingdom of God to have it come on Earth who will be afforded the best food, drink and clothes, and it is not just physical food, but rather, the best of spiritual food, drink and clothing, so much so, that indeed, you need not continue on with the prayer beyond, “Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven,” because the daily bread, the forgiveness and the strength to overcome all things will be yours to maintain you on Earth until the kingdom comes.

If the Kingdom of God is within us, and it does not come visibly as Jesus said,[9] then the presence of the Kingdom of God is not maintained by organisations, which own properties, but rather, it is maintained by the continual presence of a fellowship of disciples in whom is the Kingdom of God.  Thus, it is possible to wipe out the Kingdom of God on Earth by wiping out all discipleship.  Since not all have the Kingdom of God within them, then the physical church, with its congregations and buildings, that has no power to cause the blind to see, is not the Kingdom of God, but merely a staging post for those who have chosen to repent to go to Heaven.

It would be fair to say that it has always been the intention of God to permit the Kingdom of God to disappear for awhile, for in the Parable of the Growing Seed, the seed disappears and is not seen again until harvest time when it reappears in the full kernel of the head of the corn, multiplied.  In between, we have the stalk and the leaves, which are not the seed that was sown.  It is as if the disappearance of the church with power to heal all the sick who came and raised the dead is part of the plan of the Kingdom of God.  What replaced it was the stalk, which is the church that had no power that did not look anything like the seed, but would be essential for the eventual reappearance of the seed.  That is the church that preached and served the Kingdom of Heaven where repentance of sins is preached in great detail and where the focus is on avoidance of sin, so that Heaven can be laid hold of.

So then, it is no surprise that now the Kingdom of God is preached the way it is being preached, and the emphasis of bringing forth a church that can do what the early church did and greater is of such urgency.  It is harvest time, and the Head is ready to produce the kernel again.  If you understand now the basics of the Kingdom of God, then you will be able to lay hold of the Kingdom of God in your life.

Our priority is to fulfil these words:  “Your Kingdom come,” which means, to have the Kingdom of God dwell within us, so that its power can overflow to overthrow all other kingdoms until there is only one kingdom on Earth, the Kingdom of Christ and of God.

Thus, anything that does not help in ushering in the Kingdom of God is of no use to us, but anything that helps usher in the Kingdom of God is of importance to us.  Since that is the priority, then what we focus on must be different from those whose priority is to gain Heaven even as they forsake Earth.  For us, it is the forsaking of Heaven to gain Earth.  Hell can wait for Judgement Day, since we know now that it will be emptied of its dead and that God “will purify the lips of all the peoples, that they may call upon the Name of the Lord” on that day.[10]  So it should be no surprise to you that your priorities are very much different to that of the church, which seeks the Kingdom of Heaven and its righteousness.

The faith and the repentance are different, and so is the priority, not that we would offend anyone by saying that they are wrong.  No, they are not wrong to seek refuge in the Kingdom of Heaven, but it is better to seek glory in the Kingdom of God.

The purpose of the Kingdom of God coming on Earth is to give the Father the glory He is seeking, as Jesus said, “I am not seeking the glory for Myself; but there is One who seeks it.”[11]  And glory is in the Kingdom of God, for the Spirit of Glory who heralds the Kingdom of God, as Jesus said, “If I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, then the Kingdom of God has come upon you,”[12] is only for those who want to testify for Jesus and to be His witnesses, as the Spirit of power.  For all other people, He is the Holy Spirit who has been poured on all men, so that all men may be convicted with regards to their sin of unbelief in Jesus, even as the Gospel is preached.

You see, until the Kingdom of God comes in full power, this Earth will remain a battleground between the Kingdom of Heaven and the Kingdom of Darkness, each side trying to claim as many souls as possible through death.  For those who go to Heaven die just like those who go to Hell.  It is the advent of the Kingdom of God that completely defeats the Kingdom of Darkness with its prince locked up for 1000 years so that the Kingdom of God can raise up a harvest of souls on a scale undreamt of by men.  At the end of the Millennium, Satan will be released to deceive the nations, so that each man will be given the choice to believe the lie or to deny the lie.  Those who deny the lie will probably be killed by those who join in the rebellion,[13] and by their refusal to join in the rebellion they may well earn a place in the Kingdom of God.  Those who join in the rebellion will be destroyed by fire[14] to join with the rest of the dead from Hades, death and the sea on Judgement Day, when their lips will be purified that they may call upon the Name of the Lord.  Thus, the harvest at the end of the Millennium is sorted out.  Although it is not written, it may well be possible that at the end of the Millennium, there will be a process of martyring, or perhaps, those who refuse the rebellion will be with the saints in the camp of God’s people.[15]

Thus, once you can see the basic priority of the Kingdom of God, then you might be ready to see the basic goal of the Kingdom of God, but for now, focus on the priority.  If the basic priority of the Kingdom of God is that His Kingdom come, then it is essential that:

·       A group of disciples are raised up with power to testify for Jesus to justify His actions and teachings, power that is from the Holy Spirit so that there is no doubt that the Kingdom of God is within them.

·       Certain scriptures must be fulfilled, so that once the Kingdom of God reappears on Earth, its King can join them.  The purpose of having disciples who are citizens of the Kingdom of God and not of the Kingdom of Heaven is so that Jesus can return.  Thus the priority to fulfil those scriptures is necessary, which includes the obvious ones like the completion of the preaching of the Gospel of the Kingdom of God[16] to all nations, now that it is defined.  And the less obvious ones, such as the manifestation of the days of distress with their famines, earthquakes and pestilences.  It should now be apparent to some of you that the days of distress will not come at their own time or just in God’s time, but they will be quickened or hurried along, if you like, by witnesses like the two prophets who will be killed.[17]  Do you see that their power to shut up the sky so that it will not rain during the time they are prophesying; and they have power to turn the waters into blood and to strike the Earth with every kind of plague as often as they want, is in fact, a shortening of days, as the Lord said?  It is a quickening, a hurrying of the fulfilment of the Lord’s own words concerning those days.[18]

·       Of course, we must not forget the antichrist, as Paul wrote:  Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed…[19]  Thus, nothing can happen if the antichrist is not revealed with the help of the false prophet.  Thus, one of the works of the Kingdom of God, one of the priorities of the Kingdom of God is not to resist the antichrist, as the Lord said, “Do not resist an evil person.”[20] But we are to create the circumstances by which he can come forth, just as Pharaoh of Moses’ day could arise because of the wisdom of the Pharaoh of Joseph’s day, so that as God said, “But I have raised you up for this very purpose that I might show you My power and that My Name might be proclaimed in all the Earth.”[21]  Whereas the church fears and resists the antichrist, those who are establishing the bridgehead of the Kingdom of God neither fear him nor resist him, but will use him so that scripture is fulfilled.  So be warned now, the power you have and will have is to establish the Kingdom of God on Earth so that the Son of the King can be crowned on Earth.  It is not for you to usurp His throne and resist His return.  The false prophet will do just that, unfortunately for him.

·       Not only do the words of the Lord need to be fulfilled, but angelic scriptures need to be fulfilled also, and as such, part of the priority of the Kingdom of God is also to see the destruction of the prostitute and the deliverance of the people of God from her grasp.[22]  And if you read what the Lord and the angel say of her, you will realise that Their wrath and anger against her is as great if not greater than Their wrath and anger against false prophets and religions.

·       And once the power is re-established, it is the priority of the Kingdom of God to bring all to repentance so that none may perish through the days of distress, and that repentance begins with the church.  It is a repentance of the loss of the Kingdom of God in the first place, for had the power of God been retained and developed beyond the first generation because the church stayed faithful to listening to Jesus instead of questioning Jesus, then none of the things of history could have happened the way it did.  So then, one of the priorities of the Kingdom of God now is to convict and show those who call on the Name of the Lord and yet do not listen to Him, the errors of their way. The purpose of restoring the power and allowing a season of miracles, signs and wonders is so that no one has an excuse that he or she was not told and that he or she did not see.  The church must be brought to account for questioning Jesus instead of listening to Him.  The heresies of the first and second century church, when men began to question just who Jesus is, and invented fanciful doctrines about Him instead of taking Him at His word, must be brought to account and pulled out by its roots, so that all works that exist in the church that come from questioning Jesus instead of listening to Him are destroyed.  You see, to question Jesus is like the Jews and Pontius Pilate asking Him, “Are You the Son of God?  Are You the King of the Jews?”  The multitude of church doctrines and teachings that asks the same questions and seeks to answer them with theories conjured up by deluded minds must be pulled out, for we are called not to be inquisitors of Christ, but to be witnesses of Christ, whose testimonies justify His words and actions, proclaiming Him to be the Son of God by the power of the Holy Spirit who dwells within us.

That is the basic priority of the Kingdom of God, the irrevocable establishment of the legitimacy of its King, with His coronation in Jerusalem, present Earth.
