Learning to apply wealth, worldly wealth, properly and correctly is the best training there is for the proper application of the more important things.  Jesus said, “I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings.  Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.  So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth; who will trust you with true riches?  And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own?”[1]

Being trustworthy with the little is not a little bit of money, but rather, being trustworthy with worldly wealth so that you use it to win friends.  It is not just being accountable with the wealth, but accountable with the purpose for which it was given.  This is where many have fallen over, not because they are dishonest with the worldly wealth, but because they have used the wealth for a purpose other than winning friends.  You see, Jesus specifically said to use it for winning friends only.  Now, this is where so many err with worldly wealth in the kingdom because of our wisdom.  It is so easy to take worldly wealth to buy land and property, and to raise up magnificent cathedrals and fill them with priceless art treasures so that people can come, admire and be inspired by the grandeur of the spectacular display of worldly wealth.  Or take the wealth and start up a commercial venture with some merchants and increase the wealth further so that we can build even more impressive monuments to the memory of Christ, as if He is dead!

This is what the prostitute church did with the worldly wealth entrusted to her, so that she has become the “great city dressed in fine linen, purple and scarlet, and glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls,”[2]  so that she was a counterfeit upstart to New Jerusalem, trying to outdo New Jerusalem with her wealth.  However, in the accumulation of her wealth, only “the kings of the Earth who committed adultery with her… shared her luxury,” and as well, “all who had ships on the sea became rich through her wealth.”[3]  Yes, the kings of the Earth and the captains of the seas, but not the people of the Earth or the crews of the seas.  A few became wealthy with the prostitute’s worldly wealth, and a few became her friends as long as they continued to become wealthy through her.  But what of the people of the Earth, the common people, the sinners, the poor, the drunkards, the tax collectors; they are not included amongst those who shared in her luxury.  In fact, history testifies the people became poorer as the kings became richer, and as the captains prospered, the crews became more wretched.  For every man who prospered in the so-called Christian kingdoms of Europe, thousands became impoverished, and worse still, millions were enslaved.  So, with the worldly wealth entrusted her, the prostitute thus far has made far more enemies than friends.  No wonder what wealth she has gathered to herself will be brought to ruin in one hour![4]  And it has begun!

You see, greed, the love of money and the worldly wealth that money can buy can beguile us into justifying what we do with our worldly wealth.  Hoarding it so as to build up a great reserve from which we can dispense a small portion for charitable deeds is the wise thing to do, and indeed, most denominations have adopted this time-honoured practice, but it is a God-despised practice.  For when God uses His wealth to win friends, He does not pour from the overflow, He does not skim a little from the top and keep everything else in reserve; He pours it all out.  He sent His greatest treasures, His Son and His Spirit, and He gave ALL of His Son, even His life.  God didn’t send Jesus to minister for a few years in power and then raised Him back to Heaven without a scratch on Him—Jesus was marred beyond recognition and then killed.  ALL of Jesus was poured out right down to the last drop of His sweat, tears and blood.  When the Holy Spirit was poured out, He wasn’t just poured out on a few, but upon ALL flesh.  ALL of the Holy Spirit was given to ALL flesh.  When the Lord put His glory on this Earth, He didn’t just place His glory on certain more picturesque parts of the Earth, but it is written:  “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole Earth is full of His glory.”[5]

If the Lord poured out His greatest treasures, His glory, His Son and His Spirit, so that the whole Earth is filled that all may believe and all flesh receives the Spirit, then we must learn by our use of worldly wealth, to not use sparingly whatever God gives us to win friends for Jesus.  We must learn to be generous as God is generous, and amazingly, many are more generous with spiritual wealth, like a blessing, than with a crumb of worldly wealth, like a coin.  You see, the command is:  “I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends…”[6] not use spiritual wealth.  Be more circumspect.  That is why Jesus commanded, “Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs.”[7]  Worldly wealth is not sacred to God, it is common and often detestable, so what Jesus is referring to as sacred are the things of the Spirit.

But who are the dogs that we should withhold the sacred from?  Who did Jesus refer to as a dog before He defined them as “those who practise magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practises falsehood”[8]?  None other than the woman who begged Jesus to cast the demon out of her daughter.[9]  Does this offend you?  If it does, then you have not learnt to apply worldly wealth and spiritual wealth correctly, and the incorrect application of anything always results in failures.  It is only when we, the church, learn to use worldly wealth to win friends generously, and withhold the real wealth correctly, that we will see success in our application of the things of God in our lives.

Use worldly wealth to win friends, and the best way to win friends, the only way to win friends, is through generosity.  No shop keeper will say anything bad of you if you pay what they ask for.  No waiter will think ill of you if you tip generously, and no tax department will send you to jail if you pay more than they claim you owe.  Generosity with worldly wealth wins friends, and that generosity usually means that you will soon be parted with the wealth.  Now, man’s wisdom says that is foolishness, but God says, “good and faithful servant,” because you have used it precisely as Jesus said to, to win friends.

However, if you will observe the behaviour of religious men, they are more generous with what they are not meant to be generous with, but miserly with what they are not supposed to be miserly with.  They love to stand in public places and offer long prayers before crowds, invoking God’s blessings upon all sorts of ventures and people, yet will not part with a single fleck of gold from their plated crucifixes or altars.  Generous with spiritual treasures, their words, for Jesus said, “For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”[10]

How precious are words that they can acquit us!  How foolish to be generous with them before dogs and pigs, especially when words have spiritual power.  You see, when you use the words of the Lord to make friends, you have misused spiritual wealth, for the word of the Lord is not given to make friends, but to make enemies.  For it is a double edged sword, dividing even the spirit from soul and judging the thoughts and attitudes of the heart,[11] which is why Jesus said, “I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.”[12]

How foolish are we that we make enemies for the sake of a few flecks of gold and slaughter thousands and enslave millions whom Christ died to set free, for some more gold and jewels to adorn our altars, but instead, we use the very sword He brought to bring peace to all men.  You see, the complete full Gospel of Christ of John 3:16-18 does not make friends with everyone, only those who believe.  In fact, the words of Christ are offensive and have always meant to be offensive, of which is exemplified in John 3:18:  “But whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the Name of God’s one and only Son.”

There is no friendship offered in the Gospel—just salvation or condemnation.  Salvation from the purification process that God has destined for all creation, which is sin tainted, to undergo by fire and the pain of suffering.  Christ suffered on behalf of those who believe Him, so that without having to go through God’s fiery furnace, they are already purified and sanctified.  Those who refuse to believe in Him will undergo salvation by purification through fire, like gold is refined.  That is why there is fire in Hell where the dross is dislodged.  That is why there is the Lake of Burning Sulphur designed to purify that which will take eternity to purify.  When eternity comes to an end, when the Eternal God comes to an end, those in the Lake of Fire will have finished their purification.  The bad news is that there is NO end to eternity, so their purification process is eternal—hence their torment is never ending.

God does not institute eternal torment, but rather, He has devised ways so that all creation will be and can be purified from sin—some through faith in Christ, the Way, with the easy yoke, others through the fires of Hell, and some through the fires of the Lake of Burning Sulphur.  Once purified, they can be made new again, never to sin again, which is why Christ is also the Resurrection who makes light the burden of living forever.

But when a person cannot be trusted with worldly wealth, which is nothing (and that is why you use it to make friends, just like samples you give away so people remember you well), then it is no wonder real wealth, the infinite power of the Holy Spirit to confirm the word of the Lord and the words of His servants, is withheld.

So, we will be held accountable for every word of God delivered without power, for the word of God is living, active and powerful.[13]  A person who claims to be a servant of Christ, and yet delivers a powerless word, has used His Master’s wealth inappropriately.  If no one is offended, convicted and broken down to repentance, if the word of the Lord we use does not come sharp like a sword, if it does not cut through bone and marrow, dividing spirit and soul and bringing every thought into judgement, and if we deliver the words of our Lord and our testimony in such a way that the taunt of the world is proved true, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but your words will never hurt me,” then we are guilty – guilty of abuse of the Lord’s trust.  No wonder true riches are withheld and very few are given properties, real properties of their own.  You will need to know what real properties, real estates are, and you will very soon.

No, we are meant to deliver the word of our testimony and the word of the Lord so that people will say, no, cry and scream out, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but your words have crushed them all.”  Now, do you understand what Jesus meant when He said, “Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces, but he on whom it falls will be crushed”[14]?  The proper use of the word of the Lord and the word of our testimony, for the word is the true riches for all things comes through the Word, and words are to reveal enemies so that all will either surrender or stand up and fight.  There is no friendship.  That is why Jesus brought a sword and that sword comes out of His mouth.

It is not until you and I learn to value and be trustworthy with His property, in this case, His words, that we will not be given property of our own, words of our own that are worth keeping for eternity!  Do you not see what Jesus was holding out to us when He said, “If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you”[15]?  How else could you come to the fullness of the stature of Christ if your words, if you do not have words that are like His, which never pass away even when Heaven and Earth pass away[16]?  Your sinful words will pass away, for God has said, “For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”[17]  But if you are trustworthy with His property now, with His words now, and deliver them the way they are meant to be delivered, then you will have property of your own, beginning with that which was always there in the beginning, “In the beginning was the Word…”[18]  The beginning of your ownership of real property is when you are entrusted with words that you can call yours forever, so that even when Heaven and Earth pass away, they will be like the words of Jesus Christ, they will not pass away, but they will be like a memorial before the Father forever, just like the words of Jesus are a memorial forever—not of shame and failure, but of glory, of joy, and of delight.  For then your words will have proved the Father right and righteous in making man in His Image and Likeness and in sacrificing even His Son to redeem the sons of man from sin.

Now do not fret, do not worry that you have no words worthy to be called your own yet, for you have the Millennium before you where you will learn to reign and voice decrees and laws worthy to be saved from the fire that will consume all the Heavens and the Earth.

But for now, learn to apply worldly wealth to win friends so that when it is all gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings.  Isaiah was right when he wrote:   Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for Him,[19] which Paul reminded us of and brought it out in the richness that the prophet could not have seen, but only an apostle would know when he wrote to the Corinthians:  However, as it is written:  “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him.”[20]

So, awake!  Arise!  The Lord is near!  Slumber no more virgins!  Come out of the prostitute all you His people, so you will not share in her plagues, for even now the hour of the destruction of her great wealth has begun!  Her silver and gold will not save her, neither will her idols, and she will suffer the fate of all prostitutes until God is satisfied.  Amen

As you have said, O God, “My sword has drunk its fill in the Heavens…”[21] now let it drink its fill on Earth!  Gather, O birds of prey, for the Lord has appointed a feast for you on the hills and mountains, a feast of the flesh of kings and peoples of the world!

Who then is a friend of God—let him bring justice to His Son with his wealth.
