Mystery of Wickedness

From the days of Adam and Eve when God said to them, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”[1] to the end of the Millennium, the seed of Adam’s and Eve’s sin does continue to produce its fruit in mankind.

Just as when the Israelites saw the thunder and lightning and heard the trumpet and saw the mountain in smoke, and they chose to stay at a distance from the never-to-be-forgotten majestic display in theatrical grand proportions of God’s powerful Presence, yet said to Moses, “Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do not have God speak to us or we will die,”[2] the people of God continued to uphold this tradition when the Saviour of the world came. For when the crowd were looking for Him after He fed 5000 men besides the women and children[3], He said to them, “I tell you the truth, you are looking for Me, not because you saw miraculous signs but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you.”

They asked Him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” And Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the One He has sent.” Seeking to justify themselves, they asked Him, “What miraculous sign then will you give that we may see it and believe You? What will You do?”[4] They had seen His miracles already, but demanded something even greater, yet when He gave it to them, they were unwilling to receive it in the form it came and was presented to them, this very same form that continues with us today, for it is He who is the Bread of Life that came down from Heaven to reconcile all men to God when He gave His blood as the Blood of the New Covenant for the forgiveness of our sins.

Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise Him up at the last day. For My flesh is real food and My blood is real drink. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood remains in Me, and I in Him. Just as the living Father sent Me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on Me will live because of Me. This is the Bread that came down from Heaven. Your forefathers ate manna and died, but he who feeds on this Bread will live forever.”

On hearing it, many of His disciples said, “This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?” From this time many of His disciples turned back and no longer followed Him.[5] For we were not only to partake of the blood of the New Covenant for the forgiveness of our sins, which we could receive at no cost to ourselves but only to believe and receive, but Jesus told us that we were to “work… for food that endures to eternal life.” Yet He also said, “The work of God is this: to believe in the One He has sent.” So then what does believing entail? For it is that we believe He is our Saviour, the Lamb of God who gave His life for the sins of the world, but to believe in the One God the Father sent is to believe in Him and all that He said and did, and as we believe in Him, we believe in the One who sent Him and the One whom Jesus and the Father sent, the other Counsellor, the Spirit of Truth,[6] and in so doing we obey and put into practice the singular New Covenant command of the Father, “This is My Son, whom I love… Listen to Him!”[7] And Jesus first command to us when He began preaching was, “Repent!” in acknowledgment of our sinfulness and need of a Saviour, for the blood of all the goats and bulls in the world for all time can never remove our sin from us with all of its consequences.

And it is not that we sin much that we love much, as everyone has sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, for we may continue to sin much, yet not see that what we do is sin, and all and any sin brings with it death. For when and if we do recognise our state of sinfulness, we may repent and be forgiven, but then do take that forgiveness for granted as if it is our earned right, our dues owed to us by our Forgivers, Father, Holy Spirit and Word become flesh, who is Son of God and Son of Man, and given the only Name above all names that delivers us and sets us free, as if it is Their duty, Their job, Their work…

But it is when we recognise that we are in a very grave urgent need of forgiveness by They who will not hold our sins against us when we come to Them in repentance and particularly in a state of humble repentance, for it is only They and no other who can set us free from sin and death, and it is that They in the FULLNESS OF GRACE, generously forgive and forget, that our hearts are filled with responsive gratitude which produces much love for They who are our Forgivers. For without Their forgiveness, They who wipe our slates clean in a manner of such loving tender gracious genteelness as we repent, we have no lasting life but only death working its destruction within us.

And it dawns on us as we realise the shocking horrific truth that we continue to stumble over and over in doing the things that we desire not to do but do with the DNA of the predictable sin-code written within us not, yet fully overcome by our own frantic desperate wilfulness taking on all that our Jesus gives us and speaks into our lives so that we would practise His words with the concentrated determined urgency of a violent intensity under the humble but enduring persistent pin-point focussed guidance of our Counsellor, the Holy Spirit, that we would not have come to know God’s amazing incomprehensible grace to us if we had not come to this awakening… The very same Counsellor who was with our older Brother Jesus as He underwent the hardest of discipline that His Father, our Father, placed upon Him that He would ensure success and become Success who would go before us and open the way by becoming the Way, which led to the Door of which He is the Door to the salvation of our life, for He is the Life; the Door for which the key to it is the truth, for He is the Truth, as He said, “I am The Way, and the Truth, and the Life.”[8]

And without Grace, the Grace freely given to us by our Saviour and our God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, we would never have the opportunity to receive the increase of coming to know Them in all the fullness of Their Deity, Their Holiness, Their Love, Their humility, Their motives, Their plans, Their desires, Their hopes, Their dreams, Their Glory, Their suffering and Their joys, and we would never be privileged to come to know the type of love and fruits that we could produce, which are without price, for their worth is beyond anything that this world could measure that they might be valued. That to come to a realisation of what we truly were and are in our wickedness, and who They truly are is utterly priceless… of the highest value and will take all of eternity to come to understand, so valuable is its worth. For the greatest treasures, the treasures of the darkness, are to be found side-by-side of the razor’s edge upon which we would dare undertake to walk, whereon the other side holds the agonising reality of the sinful state of mankind, ever ready like a wildly ferocious barking dog, withheld from food for enough time to increase its anxiety, as it smells you as meat close by and goes berserk to get at you that it may devour you and satisfy itself.

It is true that we are redeemed by the blood of Jesus, paid at a price far higher and more distant than the east is from the west to our lowly salvager’s worth, that even to be the dust under His feet that He may walk upon, is too gracious a privilege for us to imagine for ourselves, (for where ever He places His feet is holy ground)[9], yet many who have received their salvation still remain wicked. For when Jesus told His disciples: “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of Me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the Kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”[10] Jesus was talking about this gospel; He was not referring to the gospel of His salvation, but the unquestionable truth of the wickedness of mankind, which is the testimony to all nations of the righteousness of His just judgments under all circumstances.

For the LORD saw how great man’s wickedness on the Earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time[11] and we have remained of the same incestuous nature. For when we believe in Jesus we are truly saved, but it takes the ongoing continuous humble repentance of ones who would recognize the urgent absolute necessity, the imperativeness of the act of repentance to not only keep sin from our door but so that it may not work its death within us and steal from our God the life that He gave to us and the Life that He gave for us. And so it also takes the ongoing willful submission with intense careful diligent listening to the counsel of the Holy Spirit who trains us in our practice of the application of Jesus’ teachings that we too would assent to the discipline of our Father who disciplines those He loves, and that we are inspired by the hardest discipline, which did produce the greatest fruits in our beloved Brother Jesus, that we would request our Father to train us in like manner so that Jesus would not have ones who would cause Him anguish of heart as we aspire to rule with Him in Jerusalem during His Millennial Reign.

And that we might not cause any anguish whatsoever, whether it be fleeting or deep, we would submit ourselves to be perfected as our Lord was perfected, so that there would not even be a dissected split-hair’s breadth of dissimilation and error found within us. And yes this would be impossible, but with our God, nothing is impossible, and thus we propose to Him that He please not give up with us, but whatever it takes, whether it begins with a fraction of a micro millimeter by a fraction of a micro millimeter until it becomes stride by stride just like the strides of Jesus. So, “Father, if it would please You and not tire You in wearying distress, please discipline us, for where there is hope there is faith, and where there is faith there is the imagination of the possibility and where there is possibility there is life for it is God who gives life to all things for You are Life and Life Abundant. We are not asking that You change us carte-blanch, no, for this would not bring You pleasure, but that we submit ourselves to Your discipline that we become Your dream of Your Success multiplying Himself within us and through us, for You said, “I am very jealous for Zion; I am burning with jealousy for her. I will return to Zion and dwell in Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will be called the City of Truth, and the mountain of the LORD Almighty will be called the Holy Mountain. Once again men and women of ripe old age will sit in the streets of Jerusalem, each with cane in hand because of his age. The city streets will be filled with boys and girls playing there.”[12] But You also said, “It may seem marvelous to the remnant of this people at that time, but will it seem marvelous to Me?”

And You said, “I will save My people from the countries of the east and the west. I will bring them back to live in Jerusalem; they will be My people, and I will be faithful and righteous to them as their God.” “These are the things you are to do: Speak the truth to each other, and render true and sound judgment in your courts; do not plot evil against your neighbor, and do not love to swear falsely. I hate all this,” and, “love truth and peace.”[13]

For Your Millennial Reign is not a time of peace and rest for Yourself, for it will not seem marvelous to You. You warn us to be truthful with each other and avoid falsehood, for it will be that outside of New Jerusalem on New Earth the dogs will be those who practise magic arts, the sexually immoral, murderers and idolaters and everyone who loves and practises falsehood,[14] for as mankind did not stop worshiping demons, and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood—idols that cannot see or hear or walk, nor did they repent of their murders, their magic arts, their sexual immorality or their thefts in this age,[15] so shall this inherent wickedness be carried through into the Millennium and continue on its insidious work within mankind even without demons present, under the supposed euphoric reign of the Royal Heir, the King of kings and Lord of lords, Jesus Christ, the Son of God Himself.

Come near, you nations, and listen; pay attention, you peoples! Let the Earth hear, and all that is in it, the world, and all that comes out of it! The LORD is angry with all nations; His wrath is upon all their armies. He will totally destroy[16] them; He will give them over to slaughter. Their slain will be thrown out, their dead bodies will send up a stench; the mountains will be soaked with their blood. All the stars of the Heavens will be dissolved and the sky rolled up like a scroll; all the starry host will fall like withered leaves from the vine, like shriveled figs from the fig tree.[17]

“The great day of the LORD is near—near and coming quickly. Listen! The cry on the day of the LORD will be bitter, the shouting of the warrior there. That day will be a day of wrath, a day of distress and anguish, a day of trouble and ruin, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness, day of trumpet and battle cry against the fortified cities and against the corner towers. I will bring distress on the people and they will walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the LORD. Their blood will be poured out like dust and their entrails like filth. Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to save them on the day of the LORD’s wrath. In the fire of His jealousy the whole world will be consumed, for He will make a sudden end of all who live in the Earth.”[18]

My sword has drunk its fill in the Heavens; see, it descends in judgment on Edom,[19] the people I have totally destroyed.”[[20]] For the LORD has a sacrifice in Bozrah[[21]] and a great slaughter in Edom.[[22]] For the LORD has a day of vengeance, a year of retribution, to uphold Zion’s cause. Edom’s streams will be turned into pitch, her dust into burning sulfur; her land will become blazing pitch! It will not be quenched night and day; its smoke will rise forever. From generation to generation it will lie desolate; no one will ever pass through it again[23] for Edom is the one who did not appreciate his birthright and sold it for a bowl of stew and now it is destined to be an eternal bowl of stewing sulphur.

Who is this coming from Edom, from Bozrah, with His garments stained crimson? Who is this, robed in splendour, striding forward in the greatness of His strength? “It is I, speaking in righteousness, mighty to save.” Why are your garments red, like those of one treading the winepress? “I have trodden the winepress alone; from the nations no one was with Me. I trampled them in My anger and trod them down in My wrath; their blood spattered My garments, and I stained all My clothing. For the day of vengeance was in My heart, and the year of My redemption has come. I looked, but there was no one to help, I was appalled that no one gave support; so My own arm worked salvation for Me, and My own wrath sustained Me. I trampled the nations in My anger; in My wrath I made them drunk and poured their blood on the ground.”[24]

Woe to the city of oppressors, rebellious and defiled! She obeys no one, she accepts no correction. She does not trust in the Lord, she does not draw near to her God. Her officials are roaring lions, her rulers are evening wolves, who leave nothing for the morning. Her prophets are arrogant; they are treacherous men. Her priests profane the sanctuary and do violence to the law. The Lord within her is righteous; He does no wrong. Morning by morning He dispenses His justice, and every new day He does not fail, yet the unrighteous know no shame. “I have cut off nations; their strongholds are demolished. I have left their streets deserted, with no one passing through. Their cities are destroyed; no one will be left—no one at all. I said to the city, ‘Surely you will fear Me and accept correction!’ Then her dwelling would not be cut off, nor all My punishments come upon her. But they were still eager to act corruptly in all they did. Therefore wait for Me, for the day I will stand up to testify.[[25]] I have decided to assemble the nations, to gather the kingdoms and to pour out My wrath on them— all My fierce anger. The whole world will be consumed by the fire of My jealous anger. Then will I purify the lips of the peoples, that all of them may call on the Name of the LORD and serve Him shoulder to shoulder. From beyond the rivers of Cush.[[26]] My worshipers, My scattered people, will bring Me offerings. On that day you will not be put to shame for all the wrongs you have done to Me, because I will remove from this city those who rejoice in their pride. Never again will you be haughty on My holy hill. But I will leave within you the meek and humble, who trust in the Name of the Lord. The remnant of Israel will do no wrong; they will speak no lies, nor will deceit be found in their mouths. They will eat and lie down and no one will make them afraid.”[27]

“You do not want to leave too, do you?” May we go beyond the answer of Simon Peter to Jesus, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.”[28] Let there be no wicked thing be found amongst us. Rend your hearts! Let us remain in urgent unceasing repentance and absolute humble submission to our Lord God Almighty in all our practice that we may be found to have no wickedness within us from this day onward that we may give Them rest.
